Early this week, Western welcomes two Chinese universities to campus in hopes of exploring broader partnerships.
On Monday and Tuesday, the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry hosts a delegation from Nanjing Medical University. President Qi Chen, and six colleagues including deans and vice deans from the Chinese medical school, will meet with Schulich and London health care leaders throughout the two-day visit.
Highlights include tours at Schulich, London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph’s Health Care London. Delegates will visit the Clinical Skills Learning facility, Dr. Richard Kim’s laboratory, the Dr. Sandy Kirkley Centre for Musculoskeletal Research and the Hand and Upper Limb Clinic (HULC).
A follow-up to a visit from Schulich to Nanjing in fall 2012, this meeting will focus on research collaboration, simulation training, educational exchange and postgraduate medical training.
On Monday and Tuesday, as well, Western also welcomes representatives from Soochow (Suzhou) University. The delegation, including Xinghong Jiang, undergraduate academic affairs and international affairs vice-president, will meet with the Office of the Registrar and several faculties to explore exchange and other partnership opportunities.
In November 2012, Western representatives travelled to Soochow in Jiangsu Province, China, to officially open the Soochow University-Western University Centre for Synchrotron Radiation Research. Now, Western is exploring further partnerships with Soochow, one of China’s top 100 universities and a growing, comprehensive university with more than 300,000 alumni.
