Badminton player Martin Giuffre and track athlete Brenna Thomson have been named the Western Mustangs Goodlife Fitness Athletes of the Week for March 11-17.
Giuffre, a fourth-year Kinesiology student, successfully defended his OUA men’s badminton singles title and captured the OUA men’s doubles title along with teammate Ross Golding this past weekend en route to helping the Mustangs to a silver medal at the OUA Badminton Championships. The Calgary native was also named OUA men’s MVP for the fourth consecutive year and was named to the OUA All-Star team for both men’s singles and men’s doubles.
Thomson, a fourth-year Bachelor of Management and Organizational Studies (BMOS) student, won two medals at the CIS Track & Field Championships in Edmonton this past weekend, helping the Mustangs women’s team to a fourth place finish overall. The De Winton, Alta., native won bronze in the 300m, was part of the silver medal winning 4x200m relay team, and also finished fourth in the 60m dash, setting Western records in all three events.
“Brenna capped off an outstanding season with results that put her in the Western record books in all four sprint events. She has established herself as Western’s all-time best female sprinter,” said head coach Vickie Croley.
