Antony and Cleopatra, William Shakespeare’s multifaceted tragedy about two of the most famous lovers in history, will come to life in University College’s courtyard July 5-9.
Arguably the most seductive and complex of Shakespeare’s heroines, as well as a powerful and controversial historical figure, Cleopatra VII, Queen of Egypt in the first century BC continues to fascinate scholars, critics, and general audiences alike.
Her passionate love affair with renowned Roman general, Mark Antony, their important influence on the Roman Empire, and their untimely, tragic deaths form the basis of this great play that combines tragedy, action, love story, and political intrigue all in one.
Andre Cormier plays Antony and Kaitlyn Rietdyk is in the role of Cleopatra.
Antony and Cleopatra is the 31st annual Summer Shakespeare production by Western’s Department of English. The play will be performed in the courtyard on the west side of University College. In case of bad weather the play will be move inside to University College room 204.
There will be five performances July 5-9, all beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Folding chairs on risers will be available. Those attending are invited to bring a chairs or cushions for comfort.
