The Department of Philosophy is bringing together two strong but
traditionally separate areas – ethics and philosophy of science
– with the establishment of the Joseph L. Rotman Institute of
Science and Values.

Five years ago, alumnus Joseph Rotman (BA’57) and his wife
Sandra donated $1.4 million to the area of Philosophy of Science in
the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, creating a $1 million endowment
fund for a Canada Research Chair in the Department of Philosophy
and supporting two annual graduate student awards.

Gratitude is a big, epic and satisfying experience and a worthy
contender for the London Reads 2008-2009 title.

The flag will be at half-mast Thursday until 1:30 p.m. for Mary
Alexander, a retired staff member from Dentistry (Schulich School
of Medicine & Dentistry). Alexander, 71, had 29 years of
service at Western before retiring in 1998.

University of Western Ontario alumnus and Global National host
Kevin Newman, comedian Brett Leake, and Food Network chef David
Adjey are part of the lineup of guest speakers for the 2009 Western
Staff & Leaders’ Conference during reading week.
