Western’s Friends of the Gardens (FOGs) grew more than just plants this year as its 17th annual plant sale, growing its sales to just under $3,000, well beyond last year’s total of just over $1,600.
“We would like to thank everyone who donated seeds, plants, pots and their time to make our annual plant sale a huge success,” says FOGs volunteer Sarah Lee, adding the group has enough money for two $1,000 undergraduate student bursaries.
“We are selling more plants this summer and fall in order to provide one or more additional student bursaries.”
More plants are available for sale in the Biology & Geology (B&G) Building courtyard (ground floor) on Thursdays from noon until 1 p.m. Check out the FOGs website for a list of available plants. Still available for sale are hostas, annuals, herbs and vegetable plants.
“Let us know if there is something you are looking for because we may be able to bring it in from our home gardens if we don’t have it from our Western gardens,” adds Lee.
FOGs are also accepting donations of plants, pots and trays. Label your donations “for FOGs” and leave them at the B&G loading dock (inside) or near the doors to the B&G courtyard. Try to label your plants since it helps to know at least the flower colour if the plant is not blooming.
