of Western Ontario has attracted a generous donation from a London
couple who want their gift to have a lasting effect on London’s
capacity for world-class research.

It was a proud and telling moment for The University of Western
Ontario’s nursing school when alumna Bonnie Adamson (MScN ’84,
Nursing Administration) was appointed the new President and CEO of
London Health Sciences Centre.
President rolls out priorities
Amit Chakma has received valuable input from members of the campus
community during his first year as president, which he has used to
outline his priorities for the year ahead.
Breathing new life into science
One of the 2010 Canada Gairdner International Award recipients will
spend Monday, Oct. 25 at The University of Western Ontario where
he’ll meet with undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate students,
as well as high school students from the region.
Rotman Institute opening
All are invited to attend the official opening of the Rotman
Institute of Philosophy, beginning at 5 p.m. today in Conron Hall
(University College 224).
UPDATE: In Memoriam – Peggy Bugler
Peggy Bugler, administrative assistant to the Associate
Vice-President (Financial Services) died Wednesday, Oct. 20. A
long-time Western employee (33 years), Bugler played a major role
in the ongoing success of the university and touched the lives of
countless students, staff and faculty.
Funeral services set for student
Across The University of Western Ontario campus, friends of David
Edmondson prepare to say a final farewell to the fourth-year
science student. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday
(Oct. 22) at St. Luke’s Roman Catholic Church, 39 Green Lane,
Thornhill.
Faculty association sets strike deadline
The University of Western Ontario Faculty Association has set a
strike deadline of 12:01 a.m. Nov. 3. That is the first date on
which unionized faculty members at The University of Western
Ontario will be in a legal strike position.
Tentative agreement reached with graduate teaching assistants
The University of Western Ontario and the Public Service Alliance
of Canada (PSAC) Local 610 are pleased to announce that tentative
agreement has been reached on a new 2 year contract for over 1,900
Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs).
Ivey spotlights agenda for a new economy
The Centre for Building Sustainable Value at the Richard Ivey
School of Business presents economist David Korten, a former
Harvard Business School professor and activist, who took on the
system of corporate-led economic globalization through his
international best-sellers When Corporations Rule the
World and The Great Turning. Korten will speak 1 p.m.
Thursday, Oct. 28 in Room 1R40, Ivey.
