The Canadian Quilters’ Association (CQA) will hold its annual conference, Quilt Ontario 2011, at The University of Western Ontario May 25-28.
The conference features workshops, speakers and three quilt shows: the National Juried Show, Invitational and Trend Tex Challenge Show. This is the first time CQA’s annual conference has been held in London. The National Juried and Trend Tex Challenge will be held in London Hall; the Invitational will be held in Perth Hall.
In honour of Quilt Ontario 2011, The D.B. Weldon Library is featuring a number of fibre art displays in May and June.
The first, Pathways – Seeing the Forest and the Trees: the Fibre Art Network Interprets the Journey, features FAN (Fibre Art Network), a group of professional fibre artists and teachers from Western Canada. Their Pathways exhibit in the Spencer Gallery runs until June 24.This exhibit features 34 artworks by fibre artists, each work depicting inspiring landscapes as well as personal experiences and ideas.
Secondly, the display cabinets on Weldon’s main floor will feature the exhibit Quilts as Material Culture until June 30. Antique and vintage quilts are interspersed with sewing and quilting books and a variety of sewing tools, all from the personal collection of Cynthia Norris.
Also on display in Weldon are eight Canadian Quilting Association Rosette-winning quilts from four local quilting guilds. Hung from the mezzanine for optimal viewing from the main floor, these quilts were chosen as ‘viewer’s choice,’ the best of the best locally.
