Recently, Facilities Management installed an automatic arm to block traffic on Oxford Drive (in front of the Social Science Centre). It is difficult to understand why they would do this since there are locked metal gates at both ends of Oxford Drive and the arm has yet to actually be turned on.
The consequence of this useless device is that the biking lane has been blocked by a large orange metal box that houses the motor for this mechanical device.
When I made the Facilities Management aware of its mistake, they decided to ‘rectify’ it by placing two large concrete barriers across the biking lane. This prevents all biking access along Oxford Drive during the day time from the area around the intersections of Sarnia and Western roads to all buildings north of Oxford Drive, including Robarts, Natural Sciences, Medical Science, Kresge, Dental Science and the Health Sciences addition.
Western should remove the barriers on the biking lane or provide an alternate route for bikes to circumvent the road block.
