While there are currently no cases of Ebola virus in Canada, and the risk to Canadians remains low, Western officials continue to monitor developments in regions affected by the virus. Any students, faculty or staff arriving from affected regions should follow the advice from the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.
“Western cares deeply about the health and safety of its community,” said Julie McMullin, vice-provost (international). “We will continue to monitor and post information about this and other global health matters.”
Individuals who have arrived from the countries of Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia, as well as the cities of Lagos and Port Harcourt in Nigeria and the Equateur Province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo should self-monitor for 21 days after leaving an affected country/area.
Self-monitoring involves checking your temperature twice daily for a fever (a temperature of 38 degrees Celsius or greater) and watching for other symptoms associated with Ebola virus disease. Information regarding self-monitoring, and a form to record temperature, is available at Advice for Returning Travelers from Countries/Areas Affected by Ebola Virus Disease and Temperature Recording Form.
