It’s about more than a number for Margaret Steele.
“Western’s annual United Way Gift Announcement event is always special because it reminds me just how generous members of our university community are with their time and donations,” said Steele, Vice Dean, Hospital & Interfaculty Relations in the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. Steele and Murray Bryant, Ivey Business School professor emeritus, are co-chairs of the university’s United Way campaign.
Members of the Western community are invited to the campaign announcement at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, in the McKellar Room, University Community Centre. At that event, organizers will announce the campaign total.
In September, United Way of London & Middlesex set a 2015-16 campaign goal of $9.1 million during the annual 3M Harvest Lunch at Budweiser Gardens. Western launched its campaign with a goal to raise $750,000.
Organizers thank those who have already contributed to the current campaign and welcome additional donations over the next few weeks. More information on the campaign and how to donate can be found at unitedway.uwo.ca.
“I hope everyone will consider taking a few minutes to join us as we announce this year’s commitment to helping create real and lasting change in our local community,” Steele said.
Last year, Western’s campaign hit a major milestone as the 2014 fundraising total of $745,014 pushed the university’s cumulative total over the $10-million mark since organized campaigns began in the 1990s. Western has consistently been one of the largest single donors to the campaign and has now raised $10,216,722 over that time frame.
