Western wind engineering expert Greg Kopp was a featured researcher in Ottawa Wednesday at an event designed to provide Members of Parliament, Senators and senior government officials with the opportunity to gain insights into Canada’s research successes and its capacity for innovation.
The event, Eye on Innovation, was sponsored by the Canada Foundation for Innovation and was hosted by the Speaker of the House of Commons.
It brought together a mix of some of Canada’s brightest researchers to talk about the successes of their research and how that research impacts Canadians.
“The Canada Foundation for Innovation has been tremendously important for Canadian scientists and researchers by providing the resources to build world-leading laboratories. Our laboratories for wind research at Western are the envy of our colleagues around the world,” says Kopp.
Kopp, who currently holds a Canada Research Chair in Wind Engineering, is a professor of civil and environmental engineering in Western’s Faculty of Engineering, and is a Research Director at Western’s Boundary Layer Wind Tunnel Laboratory.
Kopp is also a lead researcher at the CFI funded Three Little Pigs Project at The Insurance Research Lab for Better Homes.
The Western lab is a multi-million dollar, state-of-the-art research facility that is examining all aspects of house construction. It is home to novel experiments on extreme wind effects, moisture penetration, energy efficiency and mould growth.
