As Western’s United Way campaign rests in ‘silent mode’ – until the formal fundraising announcement Jan. 26 in the Great Hall (11 a.m.) – the campus community is looking for a solid finish towards meeting its goal of $550,000.
The campaign sits at about 90 per cent of its target.
Campaign co-chair (Faculty) Julie McMullin says once again students, staff and faculty have shown tremendous generosity in support of the United Way campaign, which she adds is particularly encouraging in light of the global economic crisis.
“My work on this campaign has been very rewarding because I have learned about how much the community at Western cares for and about others,” says McMullin.
“I would like to extend a warm thank you to all of you who contributed to the campaign. We are eagerly anticipating the announcement of Western’s contribution to the United Way.”
Fellow chair Malcolm Ruddock has been impressed by the response of the Western community and is convinced Western will again step up to make a difference in the community.
“We still have a lot of money to raise to reach our goal, but I’m encouraged by our results so far,” says Ruddock. “It’s clear that Western’s campus community understands the important role we play in supporting London’s social service agencies that help family, friends, colleagues and neighbours in their time of need.”
Western’s final fundraising tally will be announced at 11 a.m. on Jan. 26 in the atrium of the Richard Ivey School of Business.
The London and Middlesex United Way campaign will announce its final fundraising number in February. This year’s county-wide goal was $7.3 million goal.
