Payment convenience comes at a price at many businesses and organizations, and Western Finance and Facilities is taking steps to protect the university, and its individual units, from the growing threat of payment card fraud.
Organized by the Bankcard Committee, Western will host an information session from 1-2:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, in the McKellar Room, University Community Centre, room 290, designed to help employees defend against payment card fraud.
All are invited, especially those responsible for processing payment cards.
London Police Service Detective Sam McDean, along with other members of the LPS Fraud Section, will speak about the latest on payment card fraud, point-of-sale device tampering, as well as the overall risk of criminal activity in e-commerce.
Fraud Section members have received specialized training and are responsible for the investigation of major frauds, including offences related to telemarketing, internal commercial, computer, social assistance, credit card, electronic banking and counterfeit currency.
