Western’s International Week 2015 gets underway today providing an opportunity to celebrate Western’s international community, diversity and international collaborations.
Running through Friday, the week’s theme is U and the World and features cultural experiences, panel discussions, presentations, workshops, displays, tours and other activities designed to inspire students, faculty, staff and the London community to build their intercultural skills and become more globally aware.
“As a globally relevant university, it is important that we provide international opportunities for students, staff, faculty, and alumni to reach beyond our campus to inform their worldview and also to provide a space for sharing their perspectives both here and abroad,” said Julie McMullin, Vice-Provost (International). “International Week helps to foster intercultural literacies that help us to live and work in a rapidly evolving and diverse world.”
On Thursday, Western’s Centre for Research on Migration and Ethnic Relations is presenting Journeys of Migration, an opportunity to hear firsthand the migration stories of three established immigrants in London who are giving back to the community, and the Ameen family, a Syrian refugee family who have recently arrived in Canada as government assisted refugees.
