The Western community is mourning the death of Joshua Switzer, a 22-year-old King’s University College student, who died Saturday, May 19 as a result of a hit-and-run collision in London’s north end.
Visitation will be held from 3-5 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, May 23 at the Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road N. A funeral mass will take place 11 a.m. Thursday, May 24 in The Chapel in Revera’s Windermere on the Mount, 1486 Richmond St. A private family interment will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery.
On Thursday, Western will lower the flag on University College in Switzer’s honour.
He is survived by parents, Rob and Pam Switzer; siblings, Matt, Benjamin and Brianna; and grandparents, Mary Smith of London and Lloyd and June Switzer of Ilderton.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to Lamba Chi Alpha Fraternity for a scholarship that is being set up in Switzer’s name. Cheques may be left at the funeral home.
Switzer was walking home from a friend’s house between 3-4 a.m. on Saturday, May 19 near the intersection of Highbury Avenue and Fanshawe Park Road when he was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene.
On Tuesday, police charged Darrin Norton, 34, of St. Thomas with leaving a fatal collision scene. According to police, Norton’s 1994 Ford Ranger pick-up truck had severe damage to its front end at the time of arrest.
