Western’s participation in the annual RONA MS Bike Tour looks to get a financial boost Thursday with a fundraising barbecue on the Concrete Beach.
Members of Team Western will be there from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. to helps raise money to push scientists a step closer to a cure for Multiple Sclerosis. Most often diagnosed in young adults (aged 15 to 40), multiple sclerosis can be unpredictable, affecting vision, hearing, memory, balance and mobility.
The team will be participating in the Grand Bend to London biking fundraiser scheduled for July 23-24.
Team Western was formed in 2004 by Campus Community Police Service Staff Sergeant Michael Mics, with the MS Road Warriors formed in 2009 by Gord Robinson of Western’s Hospitality Services. Mics and Robinson met during last year’s ride and decided to merge both teams together under the Team Western banner.
The event is not a race, but rather an enjoyable way to raise funds for a great cause. The trek begins in Grand Bend on the Saturday and ends at Western. The next morning, riders return to Grand Bend, riding a total of 160 kilometres.
To register as a rider with Team Western or to make a donation, visit the MS Bike Tour website. If you want to communicate with either of the team co-captains, you can send an email to either mmics@uwo.ca or grobinso@housing.uwo.ca.
